Dr. Tahir Hameed Tanoli

Dr. Tahir Hameed Tanoli is the Chief executive/Director of IRDI. With an academic background in Islamic Sciences and Philosophy, he has made significant contributions to the fields of literature, religion, philosophy, mysticism, cultural studies, Iqbaliyat (the study of Allama Iqbal’s thought), and international affairs. As a distinguished scholar, he currently serves as the Principal Iqbal Scholar and Head of Research and Academics, Iqbal Academy Pakistan where he has overseen numerous research projects conducted in multiple languages, including Urdu, English, Persian, and various regional languages. His scholarly influence extends beyond administration, as his most notable achievement lies in the interpretation and explanation of Allama Iqbal’s seminal work, The Reconstruction of Religious Thought in Islam. Dr. Tanoli has authored detailed interpretations of each of Iqbal’s famous lectures of The Reconstruction of Religious Thought in Islam, offering readers deep insights into Iqbal’s complex philosophical ideas. In addition to his work on Iqbal, Dr. Tanoli has authored several important books that explore the life, mystical thoughts, and teachings of Khawaja Muhammad Abdul Rahman Chohahrvi, a renowned spiritual figure of the Qadiria order and the author of Majmooa Salawat-ul-Rasoul. His works on Hazrat Khawaja Chohahrvi include Maktoobat Rahmaniya, Life and Teachings of Muhammad Abdul Rahman Chohahrvi, Sharh Asma e Husni, Shibar al Asma Al Ilahiya, and Metaphysics of Muhammad Abdul Rahman Chohahrvi. These texts reflect Dr. Tanoli’s deep engagement with Islamic mysticism and its metaphysical dimensions, bringing greater awareness of Sufi thought and practices to both academic and spiritual audiences. Dr. Tanoli’s academic influence extends further, as he is a member of peer review committees in several prestigious universities in Pakistan. His doctoral research explored the clash of civilizations, particularly comparing the ideas of Allama Iqbal and Samuel Huntington. His PhD thesis, titled Contemporary Civilization Conflict and Thought of Iqbal: Causes, Effects, and Solutions, has been published and has contributed to the discourse on global civilization conflicts and potential pathways to resolution, drawing heavily on Iqbal’s philosophical framework.
