Abstract: A collection of letters between Barrister Tajuddin Pir and M.A. Jinnah from January 1944. Tajuddin Pir offers to serve on a proposed "Planning Committee" and seeks Jinnah's advice and approval for publishing his articles on Pakistan in book form. Jinnah's reply acknowledges the offer but indicates the Planning Committee will be small and composed of businessmen, technicians, and scientists. He advises Tajuddin Pir to find a commercial publisher in Lahore for his book, as the Muslim League's Study Circle cannot undertake the task. The earlier, less legible pages from Tajuddin Pir also mention aspirations to travel to America to work for the League and a request for Jinnah to remember his services.
Description: This correspondence provides a glimpse into the intellectual and organizational support structure of the Muslim League during the Pakistan movement. It shows individuals like Tajuddin Pir, a barrister, actively seeking to contribute through specialized committees and by disseminating ideological literature. Jinnah's response reflects a strategic and focused approach to building the League's capacity, preferring experts for technical committees while encouraging party members to utilize private enterprise for propaganda and publishing efforts. The documents highlight the dual track of political mobilization and state-building preparations that characterized the League's activities in the 1940s. SCANNED BY: NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF PAKISTAN.
