Abstract: Letters from Nawabzada Mozaffar Ali Khan Qizilbash, President of the Lahore District Muslim League and the Punjab Shia Political Conference, to M.A. Jinnah in March 1944. The first letter is a persistent invitation for Jinnah to preside over a Muslim League conference in Kasur, a key town in the Majha region, emphasizing its strategic importance and the local community's eagerness to see him. The second letter addresses concerns within the Shia community, following up on Jinnah's published correspondence. Qizilbash, representing the Shia Political Conference, requests a meeting between Jinnah and Shia leaders during his upcoming visit to Lahore to receive direct assurances regarding the religious freedom of Shias in the proposed state of Pakistan.

Description: These letters highlight the multi-faceted role of M.A. Jinnah as both a mass mobilizer and a unifying figure for different sects within the Muslim community. The invitation to Kasur demonstrates the importance of his personal presence for grassroots mobilization in politically sensitive areas. The second letter is particularly significant as it deals with the critical issue of intra-Muslim unity and sectarian assurances in the Pakistan project. It shows that Jinnah was actively engaged in addressing the concerns of minority sects within the Muslim fold, a necessary step to present a united front and build a cohesive national movement. Nawabzada Qizilbash's dual roles as a League and a Shia leader underscore the interplay between mainstream Muslim nationalism and sectarian identity politics.
