Abstract: This file contains two letters from M.A. Jinnah to a supporter, Azizur Rehman. The first, from January 1947, is a brief note acknowledging an invitation to Aligarh and indicating a tentative plan to visit in February. The second, more significant letter from July 30, 1947, written just weeks before Partition, thanks Rehman for his "strong support" for a public statement Jinnah issued on July 21st. Jinnah uses the occasion to affirm his resolve, stating "we shall keep the flag flying," and expresses confidence that those who had deserted the Muslim League would "regret their action and conduct," highlighting the internal challenges and need for solidarity at a critical juncture.
Description: This collection of two short letters provides a glimpse into M.A. Jinnah's direct communication with his supporters during the tumultuous final months before the creation of Pakistan. The correspondence moves from routine logistical planning to a powerful, morale-boosting response that reaffirms the leadership's determination in the face of defections. The July 30th letter is particularly evocative, capturing the intense political pressure of the period and Jinnah's efforts to maintain unity and confidence among his followers as the goal of Pakistan was on the verge of being realized.
