Abstract: This small collection comprises two distinct letters addressed to M.A. Jinnah. The first, from 1944, is a detailed request from Donald Edwards, the Special Correspondent for the BBC in New Delhi, for an interview. Edwards emphasizes the global reach of his broadcasts (translated into 40 languages) and his desire to present Jinnah's point of view to the world during crucial political discussions. The second, briefer letter from 1941 documents Jinnah's acknowledgment and grateful thanks for a congratulatory card sent by Ahmad Mohammad Said Al-Asnaj, a prominent Arab leader and President of the Arab Reform Club in Aden.

Description: This correspondence highlights two important aspects of M.A. Jinnah's international stature during the 1940s. The BBC letter underscores his recognized importance as a major political figure whose views were sought for a global audience via the world's foremost broadcasting service during World War II. It reveals the media's role in the political process and Jinnah's careful management of his public image. The second letter, while brief, is significant as it provides evidence of Jinnah's recognition and connections within the wider Muslim world, specifically with Arab leaders in Aden. This aligns with the Muslim League's efforts to position itself and its demand for Pakistan within a broader Islamic context. Together, these documents illustrate the dual dimensions of Jinnah's engagement: with the Western media apparatus and with solidarity from the Arab world. SCANNED BY: NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF PAKISTAN.
