Abstract: This collection is a continuation of telegraph forms from the Indian Posts and Telegraphs Department, dated July 1948. It contains messages from a wider geographical spread of senders, including Madura, Ahmedabad, Salem, and Koothanallur, reacting to the assassination attempt on Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The telegrams express profound regret, shock, and condemn the "cowardly assault." A recurring theme is the gratitude to God (Allah) for his "miraculous" or "providential" escape. The senders, which include municipal councillors, various Muslim League branches, and worker unions, offer prayers for Jinnah's long life, speedy recovery, and continued leadership in guiding Indian Muslims.
Description: This telegraph forms provides further evidence of the national impact of the attack on M.A. Jinnah. The documents capture the voice of grassroots political and community organizations, such as the Salem Beedi Workers Union and the Primary Muslim League of Koothanallur, showcasing the depth of his public support. The language used is emotionally charged, referring to the "cowardly" nature of the attack and thanking Allah for divine intervention. This collection, together with the first, forms a comprehensive archive of the immediate public and political solidarity with Jinnah during a pivotal and perilous moment shortly after the Partition of India.
