Abstract: Two personal letters from a well-wisher at Bagpat Estate in Meerut to Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The first, dated 29 July 1943, expresses shock and relief following a "dastardly attack" on Jinnah, congratulating him on his survival. The second, dated 4 August 1943, follows up on his recovery, announces the sending of a gift box of mangoes (including a railway receipt), and inquires about his travel plans to Delhi. The letters reflect personal concern, devotion, and the informal networks of respect and gift-giving that surrounded Jinnah.
Description: These letters provide a glimpse into the personal aftermath of an attempt on M.A. Jinnah's life in mid-1943. They move from immediate shock and relief to the more mundane yet intimate gesture of sending a seasonal fruit gift to his Bombay residence. The correspondence underscores the deep personal reverence held for Jinnah by supporters across India, extending beyond political discourse into expressions of personal care and loyalty during a moment of vulnerability. The practical details about the railway receipt and postal concerns also offer insight into domestic logistics of the period. SCANNED BY: NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF PAKISTAN.
