Abstract: A series of personal and political letters exchanged between Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Nawab Mohammad Farid Khan, the ruler of Amb State in the North-West Frontier Province, between 1941 and 1947. The correspondence begins with mutual respect and an invitation for Jinnah to rest in Amb State for his health. It evolves into discussions on political developments, culminating in congratulations from the Nawab on the successful 1947 Referendum in the NWFP and Assam, and expressions of hope for Pakistan's future. Jinnah's replies express gratitude, acknowledge the challenges ahead, and accept the Nawab's good wishes for the new state.
Description: This collection offers a rare glimpse into the diplomatic and personal rapport between Quaid-i-Azam M.A. Jinnah and the ruler of a key princely state in the Frontier region. The letters chronicle the evolution of their relationship from formal courtesies and concerns over Jinnah's health to substantive political partnership during the critical months before Partition. They highlight the Nawab's support for the Muslim League, the significance of the NWFP Referendum, and the shared vision for Pakistan's future as a sovereign Muslim state. The inclusion of a thank-you note for gifts ("Chusha and Patti") adds a personal dimension to this historically significant political exchange. SCANNED BY: NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF PAKISTAN.
