Abstract: Letters M.A. Jinnah and the Maharaja of Pithapuram. The first, dated 15th April, is from Jinnah declining a personal meeting invitation due to indisposition but offering to meet on the 17th. The second, dated 13th July, is Jinnah's response to the Maharaja's earlier communication regarding concerns about Bengal Government affairs. Jinnah clarifies his usual practice of non-interference in Bengal—where the Muslim League held a dominant position—but offers to forward concrete issues to the Premier and Provincial Muslim League for consideration after the Maharaja attends the upcoming Zamindars' Conference in Calcutta.

Description: This file contains two letters that illustrate M.A. Jinnah's diplomatic interactions with the ruler of the princely state of Pithapuram in 1941. The correspondence reveals Jinnah's disciplined approach to political boundaries: while courteous and open to discussion, he firmly maintains his principle of not directly interfering in the affairs of a province where his party, the Muslim League, was already in a dominant position. The exchange highlights the careful balance Jinnah struck between engaging with princely stakeholders and respecting the autonomy of provincial League governments, especially in politically sensitive regions like Bengal during the pre-Partition period.
