Abstract: This document is an official ground rent receipt issued by the Government of Bombay through the Bombay Collector’s Office, dated 27 March 1931. It acknowledges payment of one year’s rent for government land situated at Malabar Hill and entered in the Collector’s Rent Roll under specified survey and cadastral numbers. The reverse side contains a printed legal notice outlining due dates, penalties, notice fees, warrant fees, and procedures under the Bombay Land Revenue Act of 1876 (as amended in 1910), including scales of fees for non-payment and attachment of property.
Description: A two-page printed government form with handwritten entries, serial number, survey and cadastral details, tenure information, rent amount, and official signatures of the Shroff and Clerk of the Bombay Collector’s Office. The verso contains a detailed printed “NOTICE” explaining payment deadlines, statutory penalties, notice and warrant fee scales, and obligations of landholders. The paper shows signs of age, discoloration, punch holes, and ink annotations typical of early 20th-century colonial administrative records. SCANNED BY: NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF PAKISTAN.
