Abstract: This collection comprises personal and official letters and telegrams addressed to Muhammad Ali Jinnah in his capacity as President of the All India Muslim League during 1942-1943. The correspondence reflects the widespread organizational activities, challenges, and fervent support for the League and the Pakistan cause across British India and even South Africa. It includes routine administrative communication, reports on public meetings, expressions of loyalty, requests for guidance, internal organizational queries, and policy discussions surrounding the Cripps Mission. The letters offer a grassroots perspective on the political mobilization of Muslims under Jinnah's leadership during a critical period of the independence struggle.
Description: This is a curated selection of archival correspondence primarily sent to M. A. Jinnah at his New Delhi residence (10 Aurangzeb Road). The letters originate from a diverse range of individuals including League secretaries, municipal councillors, professors, lawyers, students, and local leaders from provinces like Bengal, Berar, Central Provinces, and princely states. Key highlights include a passionate letter from a student in Feni, Bengal, describing a massive League gathering; a confidential memorandum from a Chittagong professor for the Cripps talks; internal League disputes from Jubbulpore; and letters discussing fundraising, session delegates, and ideological support. The collection underscores Jinnah's central role as the pivotal figure for advice, arbitration, and inspiration for the Muslim political movement, showcasing the national reach and local complexities of the struggle for Pakistan.
