Abstract: This small collection comprises two business letters related to window blinds in Bombay during World War II. The first is a sales letter from ERKINS, manufacturers of "Aerolite Venetian Blinds & Shades," addressed to M.A. Jinnah. It cleverly uses the discomforts of Bombay's climate and wartime blackout regulations (A.R.P.) to market their product. The second letter, dated January 1943, is a complaint addressed to "Messrs. Wodef Wood Works" regarding unfinished work, defective blinds ("chicks"), and a demand for an extra advance, threatening consequences if the work is not completed as per contract.

Description: This collection offers a glimpse into the domestic and commercial sphere of Bombay during World War II. The sales letter to Jinnah reveals how businesses adapted their marketing to wartime conditions, promoting products that addressed blackout regulations and the tropical climate. The complaint letter provides insight into potential disputes over quality, pricing, and contract terms in the home improvement sector. While the direct connection between the two letters is not explicit, they together illustrate the practical concerns of home management and consumer affairs during a period of significant historical upheaval.
