Abstract: This collection comprises four distinct documents concerning Indian princely states in 1947. The first is the Nizam of Hyderabad’s formal declaration, responding to the 3 June 1947 partition announcement, stating that Hyderabad will not send representatives to either Constituent Assembly and will resume independent sovereign status upon British departure. The second document discusses the need to reconstitute the States’ Negotiating Committee to represent both those princes joining the Constituent Assembly and those refusing to recognize such spokesmen. The third and fourth documents provide a detailed eyewitness account of the torture and death of Sardar Arjan Singh, a Jagirdar of Kalsia State, arrested from British territory and killed within six hours on 10 August 1947.
Description: A collection of documents addressing the constitutional future of Hyderabad and other princely states post-partition, alongside a harrowing report of state repression in Kalsia, forwarded for Jinnah’s attention in the critical. SCANNED BY: NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF PAKISTAN.
