Abstract: This collection comprises two documents: a letter dated November 27, 1946 from Quaid-e-Azam M.A. Jinnah to the Secretary, General Department, Government of Sind, requesting urgent issuance of passports for himself and his Secretary Mr. Khurshid Hasan Khurshid to travel to London following an invitation from His Majesty's Government. Jinnah notes he is accompanying the Viceroy and his previous passport is locked up in Bombay. The second document is a forwarding letter dated January 8, 1978 from Lt Gen Ghulam Jilani Khan, Secretary Ministry of Defence, to Mr. Iqbal Masud, Secretary Culture, Archaeology and Sports Division, transmitting these framed documents for archival preservation in the Quaid-e-Azam Archives.
Description: These documents capture a critical moment in the lead-up to Pakistan's independence when Jinnah was summoned to London for discussions with the British Government. His urgent request for passports, noting he would accompany the Viceroy, underscores the high-level negotiations occurring in late 1946. The reference to his passport being "locked up in Bombay" provides a personal detail about Jinnah's circumstances and his expectation of returning to his Bombay residence despite the political turmoil. The 1978 forwarding letter demonstrates the careful preservation of Jinnah's papers and their transfer to official archives, ensuring these materials remain accessible for historical research and national heritage.
