Abstract: This file contains letters from Miss Fatima Jinnah (Flagstaff House, Karachi) to the President of Azad Jammu & Kashmir Government, Mr. Qayum Khan (13 April 1957). She approves the proposed plan for a Women’s Hospital in Muzaffarabad, increases her donation by an additional Rs. 50,000 (making a total of Rs. 100,000), and states that the decision to name the hospital after her is left to them. In a separate letter of the same date, she approves the plan for a 25‑bedded ward in the Civil & Military Hospital, Muzaffarabad, and asks that work proceed as soon as possible. The file also includes memoranda from the Azad Kashmir Government’s Publicity Directorate and Commerce & Industries Secretariat (August–November 1956) concerning the expansion or reduction of the Publicity Department. One memo argues that an expanded publicity directorate is a “logical necessity” for the revitalised Kashmir liberation movement, proposing a block allocation of Rs. 1 lakh from the development fund.
Description: This file comprises two letters from Miss Fatima Jinnah dated 13 April 1957 to the President of Azad Kashmir, approving medical facility plans and increasing her donation for a women’s hospital in Muzaffarabad to Rs. 100,000. It also includes several official memoranda from August–November 1956 from the Azad Kashmir Government’s Publicity and Commerce departments, discussing the reorganisation of the Publicity Directorate in the context of the Kashmir liberation movement. Proponents argue for an expanded department with a Rs. 1 lakh allocation, while critics note duplicative work with Rawalpindi’s publicity machinery and insist on prior staff reductions as demanded by the Finance Department. The documents illustrate Miss Fatima Jinnah’s continued philanthropic engagement with Azad Kashmir and the internal administrative debates over resource allocation for propaganda efforts.
