Abstract: A memorandum from the District Soldiers, Sailors and Airman’s Board, Mirpur, lists grievances: inadequate pensions for dependents of shaheed, lack of female hospitals and child welfare centres (leading women to prefer death over examination by male doctors), absence of girls’ schools beyond a single middle school, and no properly equipped soldiers’ rest house for pensioners. Two speeches by Miss Fatima Jinnah address the Kashmir issue – condemning India’s refusal to hold a plebiscite, invoking Quaid‑i‑Azam’s legacy, and urging constructive work and moral values – and emphasise the importance of child education. A list (Page37) shows allocations from the Kashmir Fund: Technical School, Dhirkot (Rs. 50,000); Rawalakot College (Rs. 50,000); Girls Middle School, Dhirkot (Rs. 10,000); Maternity Aid, Dhirkot (Rs. 10,000); Widows home and orphans for Rawalakot (Rs. 50,000).
Description: This file contains a collection of administrative and political documents from Azad Kashmir dating to the mid‑1950s. The earliest pages are brief administrative notes. A detailed memorandum from the Mirpur District Soldiers, Sailors and Airman’s Board highlights the dire conditions of dependents of shaheed, the complete lack of female-friendly medical facilities, inadequate girls’ schooling, and the absence of a proper rest house for pensioners. Two speeches by Miss Fatima Jinnah – one on the Kashmir issue calling for a plebiscite and invoking Quaid‑i‑Azam, another on the importance of child education – reflect her continued engagement with the region. A list of Kashmir Fund allocations shows major investments in technical education, college support, girls’ schooling, maternity aid, and a widows’ home. SCANNED BY: NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF PAKISTAN.
