Abstract: This file contains correspondence between the Muslim Ladies Technical & Industrial Institute (Nanakwada, Karachi) and its Honorary Chairman, Miss Fatima Jinnah, spanning 1962 to 1967. The Principal (Mrs. K.M. Minocher) requests salary cheques for staff (e.g., Rs. 2,459 for June 1967, Rs. 1,924 for December 1962), and requests early issuance of cheques to facilitate financial year closure and winter holidays. A letter explains the institute’s origins: before Partition, the building belonged to the Lohana Trust; in November 1947, the Lohana Industrial School’s chairman handed over the keys to Miss Fatima Jinnah, who then established the Muslim Ladies Technical & Industrial Institute in 1948. Correspondence with the Karachi Municipal Corporation’s Architect (Control) reveals that approved plans for plot No. 18/A, W.O.2 are not traceable. The file also includes a submission of audited accounts for 1961–62 and a letter requesting building plan copies for expansion under the Third Five Year Plan.
Description: This file contains administrative letters from the Principal of the Muslim Ladies Technical & Industrial Institute to Miss Fatima Jinnah (Honorary Chairman) between 1962 and 1967. The correspondence primarily concerns staff salary disbursements, timing of cheques for financial year closure, submission of audited accounts, and a long-standing issue with the Karachi Municipal Corporation over obtaining certified building plans for the institute’s property. A detailed letter recounts the institute’s history: the building was handed over to Miss Fatima Jinnah in November 1947 by the outgoing chairman of the Lohana Industrial School, leading to the establishment of the Muslim Ladies Technical & Industrial Institute in 1948. The documents illustrate the financial and administrative challenges of running a women’s vocational institute under Miss Jinnah’s patronage in post‑Partition Pakistan.
