Abstract: This file contains documents related to the construction and financial management of the Khatoon-i-Pakistan Girls High School in Karachi, under the patronage of Miss Fatima Jinnah and the Khatoon-i-Pakistan Education and Welfare Board. An architect’s reminder (12 February 1957) requests payment of the 2nd instalment of fees (Rs. 4,000) and a proposal (1 March 1957) estimates a verandah extension at Rs. 40,000. Water bills from the Karachi Joint Water Board for March 1957 (Rs. 464/11/-) and January 1958 (Rs. 1,562/15/-) include interest and disconnection warnings. Receipts from Haydari Construction Company (4 April 1957) acknowledge payments of Rs. 11,790/2/6 for materials and Rs. 9,456/15/- for labour. Detailed labour and material bills for 16–25 March 1957 show earth filling, concrete work, cement, sanitary materials, gravel, etc. A grant application (undated, c. 1957–58) requests Rs. 5,00,000 for building purposes, noting Rs. 1,50,000 already collected from donations, 13.6 acres allotted by the Karachi Improvement Trust, and the foundation stone laid by Miss Fatima Jinnah on 25 December 1955.

Description: This file contains a set of financial and administrative documents from 1957–1958 concerning the construction of the Khatoon-i-Pakistan Girls High School in Karachi. An architect requests fee instalments and proposes a verandah extension. Water utility bills show consumption charges and warnings of interest and disconnection. Contractor payment receipts and itemised bills detail material and labour costs for building work. A formal grant application seeks Rs. 5,00,000 from the government, citing donations already received, land allotment, and the foundation ceremony presided over by Miss Fatima Jinnah. Together, these records illustrate the financial and logistical challenges of erecting a girls’ school under Miss Jinnah’s patronage in the late 1950s. SCANNED BY: NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF PAKISTAN.
