Abstract: A collection of bills and receipts from 1935 to 1949 addressed to Miss Fatima Jinnah in Simla, New Delhi, Bombay, and Karachi. They include purchases of silk fabric, jewellery (gold enamelled earrings with pearl tassels), spectacles, tailoring services, veterinary services, and dairy supplies. The documents offer a glimpse into her personal consumption and household management before and after Partition.
Description: The documents range from a 1935 receipt for Rs. 9,000 from Loke Nath & Co. (silk merchants in Simla and New Delhi) to a 1949 dairy farm receipt from Killedar Dairy Farm in Karachi. Notable items include a 1939 bill for “Gold Enamelled Flowers and Pearl tassel Earrings” (Rs. 45) from Delhi, a 1945 optical bill for spectacle repair from Lawrence & Mayo in Bombay, and a 1946 receipt for Rs. 109/6 from Gazdar Bros. at the Taj Mahal Hotel, Bombay. These personal records provide material evidence of Miss Jinnah’s lifestyle and consumer choices during the late colonial and early post‑independence periods.
