Abstract: Correspondence (1950‑1954) reveals a dispute over a hut at Buleji on land owned by the late Quaid‑i‑Azam and controlled by Miss Fatima Jinnah. The Collector of Karachi illegally renewed a lease (expired 1950) for Marcel Goosse, who then sold the hut to Swiss diplomat Walter Hofer, who later sold to Homi Mehta. Miss Jinnah declares the transactions invalid; the Chief Commissioner cancels the Collector’s orders, affirming her ownership.
Description: The collection opens with a 1950 solicitors’ letter noting inability to act on the Quaid‑i‑Azam’s estate. In June 1954, Miss Fatima Jinnah writes to Mr. Naqvi, then to Walter Hofer and Homi Mehta, objecting to the Collector’s unauthorised renewal of a lease for a hut at Buleji (originally held by Marcel Goosse). She asserts that the land is her private property and the Collector had no power to act. Hofer pleads ignorance and requests a meeting. The final document (July 1954) is an order from the Chief Commissioner of Karachi, based on the Public Prosecutor’s legal opinion, declaring the Collector’s orders invalid and cancelling the lease extensions. Copies are sent to all parties. SCANNED BY: NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF PAKISTAN.
