Abstract: A July 1949 property tax bill (No. 19414) for Flagstaff House is paid by Miss Fatima Jinnah’s secretary on 6 August 1949 via cheque. In 1960, her private secretary complains to the Karachi Cantonment Board about irregular, illegible, and incomplete billing for house tax, requesting better efficiency. Cantonment Board receipts from 13 May 1959 show payments of Rs. 26/2 for conservancy tax and Rs. 104/8 for house tax.

Description: The earliest document (July 7, 1949) is a bill for property taxes under the Municipal Act XVII of 1933, addressed to “Mohd Ali Niazi” but covering Flagstaff House. On 6 August 1949, Gulam Ahmad, secretary to Miss Fatima Jinnah, encloses a cheque (No. MWK 63990) for full payment, requesting the receipt in Miss Jinnah’s name. A letter dated 28 January 1960 from Syed Sharafatullah (Private Secretary to Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah) sharply criticises the Karachi Cantonment Board for sending bills irregularly (sometimes at the end of a half‑year, sometimes at the beginning), for illegible handwriting, and for missing bills (e.g., the second half of 1959 showed only house tax). She demands more efficient and regular service. Two Cantonment Board receipts from 13 May 1959 acknowledge payments of Rs. 26/2 (conservancy tax) and Rs. 104/8 (house tax) via cheques.
