Abstract: Correspondence from 1957 to 1966 between Miss Fatima Jinnah’s office and Karachi municipal/cantonment authorities regarding property taxes for 241 Staff Lines (Flagstaff House). A detailed 1959 letter from the Chief Assessor & Collector rejects her claim to waive water tax arrears from 1943‑44 to 1947‑48, citing Section 118 of the City of Karachi Municipal Act that taxes are a first charge on the property. Also includes a request for gutter manure for her garden, a cantonment board survey of her building, and various tax payment receipts.

Description: The collection opens with a 1957 forwarding note from the City Deputy Collector to the Municipal Commissioner, copied to Miss Jinnah’s secretary. A 1958 letter from her secretary orders a truckload of gutter manure from the municipal horticulturist. The key document (13 February 1959) is a four‑page letter from the Chief Assessor & Collector rejecting Miss Jinnah’s request to waive water tax arrears from 1943‑44 to 1947‑48, explaining that under Section 118 of the City of Karachi Municipal Act the tax is a first charge on the property regardless of ownership, and that conservancy tax is payable because her sewer connects to a municipal drain. A 1959 cantonment board letter requests building details for assessment. Multiple provisional receipts (1960‑1965) and a 1966 letter about plot verification conclude the set.
