Abstract: Handwritten household inventories from the 1950s‑1960s associated with Miss Fatima Jinnah. Lists include silver and crockery articles recovered from a person (ice cream plates, finger bowls, tea pots, trays, etc.), a tailoring record (silk, blouses, saris, shawls), a furniture repair note for polythene furniture, detailed enumerations of dinner sets (black & white, white & golden, green corner), kitchen utensils (bake pan, sil batta, fry pans, etc.), and a list of wanted garden implements (watering cans, secateurs, lawn mower, pruning saws).
Description: The earliest pages (October 1952) list articles recovered from Mr. Barneck Hussain, including silver trays, finger bowl cups and plates, ice cream cups, tea pots, sugar and milk pots, and a gulabdan, with columns noting items “in original condition” and “melted”. A 1962 tailoring list records quantities of silk, blouse pieces, sari, brock, shawls, and shirts. A brief letter from Stelwood (furniture makers) acknowledges a phone call about collecting polythene furniture for repairs. Extensive inventories detail black & white dinner sets, silver items (toast rings, tea pot, salt pot, mustard pot), glass tumblers, white & golden thali sets, green corner tea sets, kitchen items (bake pan, sil batta, roller, chalka, fry pans, coconut grater), and a list of garden tools wanted (watering cans, secateurs, hedge shear, lawn mower, pruning saws). These documents offer a glimpse into the domestic management and material culture of Miss Fatima Jinnah’s household in mid‑20th century Karachi. SCANNED BY: NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF PAKISTAN.
