Abstract: Banking records from 1949 to 1961 documenting Miss Fatima Jinnah’s “Kashmir Relief Fund” account with the Muslim Commercial Bank (Karachi). Includes deposit slips (cash Rs. 27,105; cheques totalling Rs. 2,550/2/6), credit advices (Rs. 2,698; Rs. 1,676/3/6), account statements showing balances in lakhs (e.g., Rs. 1,145,266 in 1952), and a 1952 letter about transferring the account to the Mereweather Tower Branch. A 1959 acknowledgement from the Accountant General of Azad Jammu & Kashmir confirms receipt of donation cheques.

Description: The earliest document (12 January 1949) is a cash deposit slip for Rs. 27,105 into the “Miss Fatima Jinnah (Kashmir Fund)” account at Muslim Commercial Bank, signed “Zulema Jinnah” (likely a secretary). A 5 February 1949 slip records cheques totalling Rs. 2,550/2/6 from various banks. A June 1949 letter credits Rs. 2,698 from a cheque. A 1950 statement shows the account’s substantial activity with balances over Rs. 1.3 million. A September 1952 letter requests confirmation of a balance of Rs. 1,145,266. A November 1952 circular from the bank’s General Manager informs customers of the transfer of accounts to the new Mereweather Tower branch. A July 1954 letter (with an apparent misprint of a huge figure) and a 1961 statement showing Rs. 820,960 continue the record. Finally, an August 1959 letter from the Accountant General of Azad Jammu & Kashmir acknowledges receipt of donation cheques from Miss Jinnah, linking these banking activities to her philanthropic support for Kashmir.
