Abstract: A collection of documents from 1947 to 1961 showing Miss Fatima Jinnah’s investment in 3% Pakistan Loan 1960 government securities held in safe custody at Habib Bank’s Merewether Tower Branch, Karachi. Includes safe custody receipts (totalling Rs. 2,50,000 and Rs. 50,000), letters collecting interest (e.g., Rs. 4,500), income tax deduction certificates (tax @ 60 pies per rupee, deducting Rs. 1,406/4), and net credits to her account (Rs. 3,093/12).

Description: The earliest document (30 June 1947) lists securities held as security against indebtedness, totalling Rs. 3,00,000. A 28 March 1949 letter encloses Safe Custody Receipt No. 209 for Rs. 50,000 of 3% Pak Loan scrip, with instructions to credit interest to her current account. Multiple safe custody receipts (Nos. 202, 210, and another for Rs. 50,000) document additional holdings. Interest collection letters from 1949, 1950, 1957, and 1961 show gross interest of Rs. 4,500 (on Rs. 3,00,000 at 3% per annum?), income tax deducted at 60 pies per rupee (Rs. 1,406/4), and net credit of Rs. 3,093/12. Income tax deduction certificates from the State Bank of Pakistan/Reserve Bank of India accompany each interest payment. These records illustrate Miss Jinnah’s management of substantial government securities as part of her personal and the Quaid‑i‑Azam estate’s finances. SCANNED BY: NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF PAKISTAN.
