Abstract: An appeal for her to lead flood relief for Punjab; a woman’s plea for the release of her husband arrested at the India‑Pakistan border; a refugee candidate’s complaint of injustice and anti‑refugee bias in the Central Superior Services Examination 1954; petitions from homeless refugees in East Pakistan living under trees; a character certificate for a displaced Kashmiri hotel owner; a letter accusing the All Pakistan Mohajir Board’s president of getting his property claim verified ahead of poorer refugees; and a detailed memorandum from the Mohajir Board to Prime Minister Suhrawardy listing demands regarding evacuee property, claims verification, and agricultural land distribution.

Description: The earliest document (12 May 1953) is a character certificate by Ch. Ghulam Abbas (President, Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference) for Sh. Tajuddin, a former owner of the “Taj Mahal Hotel” in Srinagar who lost everything. In 1954, a woman, Husain Ali, writes to the High Commissioner for Pakistan in New Delhi (copy to Miss Jinnah) that her husband Abid Ali was arrested at the border for overstaying his visa by four days; she is stranded in Karachi with young children. A lengthy letter (undated, but referencing October 1954 newspaper) from a “son of the Nation” accuses the Cabinet Secretariat of disqualifying about 20 refugee candidates from the Central Superior Services Examination despite their merit, and appeals to Miss Jinnah to intervene.
