Abstract: A set of employment exchange documents from 1966‑1968 related to recruiting staff for Miss Fatima Jinnah’s household/office. Includes a 1939? (likely 1959?) letter submitting two applicants, introduction cards (1966) sending candidates “Abell W.” and “S. Abdul” for interview/trial, a reply card for employer feedback, a registration card for a domestic servant (1968), and an Urdu page (possibly a complaint or request). The documents illustrate the formal process of hiring through the government employment exchange.

Description: Government of Pakistan Employment Exchange letter (order No. 1/1/1939, though likely 1959) submitting two applicants, Shah Modad and Been Modad, for a vacancy. An undated reply card asks the employer to state whether the applicant was engaged and why if not. Two introduction cards from 1966 from the Karachi Employment Exchange introduce “Abell W.” (1 January 1966) and “S. Abdul” (10 December 1966) for interview/trial as a “Cor. D.W.” and “S. Abdul” respectively, addressed to “Falcon Ticnah” and “P.S. To Miss Simanah” (likely misspellings of Miss Fatima Jinnah’s office). A reply card accompanies the latter. A 1968 registration card for Syed Mowjuz, a domestic servant, records his registration number and asks for employment details. An Urdu page (page 13) is partially illegible but appears to be a letter or form. An envelope addressed to “Hij. Fatima Jindal, Bonar Road” with “SERVICE UN-PAID” is also included. These documents reflect the bureaucratic process of recruiting domestic and office staff for Miss Fatima Jinnah’s establishment in the late 1960s. SCANNED BY: NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF PAKISTAN.
