Abstract: The formation of a UNICEF National Committee in Pakistan. The UNICEF Resident Representative, Alexander McIver, writes to Mr. Saifdar Ali Khan (Pakistan Red Cross) expressing pleasure that Miss Fatima Jinnah is interested in UNICEF and requesting her leadership and inspiration to establish a national committee. Attached are copies of letters from the NGO Committee on UNICEF to Begum Malik and Begum Anwar Ahmed, a resolution encouraging voluntary assistance, and informational pamphlets on cooperation between UNICEF and voluntary organisations.
Description: UNICEF Resident Representative in Karachi, notes that Miss Jinnah’s continued interest in UNICEF and plans to re‑form the old UNAC Committee along the lines of a UNICEF National Committee are very welcome. He encloses background materials: a letter from the NGO Committee on UNICEF (17 May 1955) to Begum Hussain Malik discussing APWA’s potential role in milk distribution, a similar letter to Begum Anwar Ahmed, the NGO Committee’s resolution recommending volunteer assistance, a pamphlet on “Working Together” (UNICEF and voluntary action), and other documents. McIver states that UNICEF would welcome Miss Jinnah’s leadership and that no one else could carry out the work as effectively. A file cover of the Pakistan Red Cross Society (page 1) is also included. These documents illustrate Miss Jinnah’s engagement with international child welfare efforts.
