Abstract: A set of nine documents from September‑October 1964 related to Miss Fatima Jinnah’s presidential election campaign. Includes a congratulatory letter, two letters advising her not to enter politics, an “Open Challenge” newspaper submission, a resolution of support from Sialkot Bar Association, a resolution from Town Committee Ratodero supporting Ayub Khan and asking her to withdraw, and a telegram from United Press International requesting an interview for worldwide coverage.
Description: Letter from Abdul Sattar (Karachi) congratulates her for standing in the elections and prays for her success. On 10 September, Syed Wasi Ahmad Hashmi warns her that unscrupulous elements might use mud‑slugging tactics, and advises against entering politics. On 11 September, Syed Qamaruz Zaman Shah (Hyderabad) urges her to remain a revered figure like the Queen of England rather than contest elections. Pages 28‑29 contain an undated draft or open letter titled “An Open Challenge” criticising hypocritical political manipulation. On 30 September, the Sialkot Bar Association passes a resolution appreciating her “bold decision” and stating that she has kept alive the torch of democracy. On 7 October, the Town Committee Ratodero passes a resolution expressing full confidence in Ayub Khan and requesting Miss Jinnah to withdraw her candidature. A telegram (late October 1964) from United Press International, Karachi, requests an interview with her for worldwide distribution to over 12,000 clients in 114 countries. These documents illustrate the mixed reactions – support, opposition, and media interest – surrounding her historic presidential campaign. SCANNED BY: NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF PAKISTAN.
