Abstract: This file contains a telegram and a detailed letter from Hoosen Kasam Dada to M.A. Jinnah, alerting him to a fraudulent fundraising scheme. An individual named Syed Ahmedmiya Miyasaheb approached community members in Bantva carrying letters purportedly signed by Jinnah in Gujarati, recommending donations for a madrasa (Islamic school) construction. The bearer presented a duplicate receipt book and claimed the madrasa was being built in Asarvada. Suspicious of the man's behavior and the authenticity of the letters, Hoosen Kasam Dada telegraphed Jinnah for verification. Jinnah confirmed via telegram that he had not authorized anyone to seek donations for this purpose, exposing the attempted fraud.

Description: This collection consists of three scanned pages documenting an attempted fraud using Jinnah's name and authority. The documents include an initial concerned telegram followed by a comprehensive letter describing the incident in detail. The correspondence reveals how Jinnah's reputation was exploited by impostors for fraudulent fundraising, and demonstrates the vigilance of community members in verifying such claims. It also highlights Jinnah's responsive approach to maintaining the integrity of his name and preventing misuse of his authority for unauthorized activities. The case provides insight into the challenges of public figure identity verification in pre-independence India and the importance of community networks in detecting such frauds.
