Abstract: A collection of letters and telegrams addressed to M.A. Jinnah from different correspondents. The early letters (1936-1938) from Agra are personal invitations urging Jinnah to visit and address the local Muslim community. The later telegrams (1940) from Lyallpur district in Punjab report serious allegations of election interference and high-handedness by local officials and the Unionist Party, appealing directly to Jinnah for an independent inquiry and intervention. This collection illustrates the dual role Jinnah played as a national leader: a public figure sought after for inspiration and a central authority expected to rectify local political injustices.

Description: This set of documents showcases the diverse nature of the communications received by M.A. Jinnah. It moves from polite, persistent invitations from a supporter in Agra, who is keen to host him for a speech, to urgent telegrams from Punjab detailing political conspiracies against League candidates. The telegrams from Lyallpur are particularly revealing, highlighting the tense and often corrupt political environment at the district level and the faith that local party workers placed in Jinnah's authority to challenge the establishment. These documents provide ground-level insight into the challenges of building and maintaining political support for the Muslim League. SCANNED BY: NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF PAKISTAN.
