Abstract: A small collection of letters from Khwaja Hasan Nizami to M.A. Jinnah, with one key letter from Jinnah. The correspondence includes Jinnah's strong endorsement (1928) of Nizami's proposed "Muslim Information Service," highlighting the need for a pro-Muslim press. A later letter (1939) from Nizami acts as an alarm, warning Jinnah and other national leaders that the dispatch of Arya Samajist bands to Hyderabad could spark a civil war between Hindus and Muslims, urging preventative action.
Description: This collection showcases two distinct phases of interaction between M.A. Jinnah and Khwaja Hasan Nizami, a noted writer and intellectual. The 1928 letter from Jinnah is significant as it reveals his early strategic understanding of the importance of media and information services in shaping Muslim political opinion. The 1939 letter from Nizami provides a stark, contemporary perspective on the rising communal tensions and the perceived threats to the stability of Muslim-ruled princely states, illustrating how local conflicts were seen as potential triggers for a wider national conflagration. The documents highlight the role of intellectuals and public figures outside the political mainstream in communicating grassroots concerns to the national leadership.
