Panel Discussion: Overcoming Barriers to Archives Access – Unlocking the Potential of Digital Archives in Pakistan

On 14 June 2025, Chughtai Public Library successfully hosted a thought-provoking panel discussion titled “Overcoming Barriers to Archives Access: Unlocking the Potential of Digital Archives in Pakistan” as part of #IAW2025, in collaboration with the International Council on Archives (ICA) and ASIS&T SIG-III.

The session brought together leading experts who shared valuable insights on the future of digital archiving in Pakistan.

Dr. Nosheen Fatima – Professor of Information Management, University of the Punjab
She emphasized the significance of policy integration and academic collaboration to strengthen digital archives and ensure sustainable access strategies.

Dr. Lubna Akram – Chairperson, Archive Studies, Government College University, Lahore
She highlighted the pressing need for professional training, localized archiving models, and the establishment of strong institutional frameworks for long-term digital preservation.

Rehana Kousar – Moderator and Digital Archive Specialist
She skillfully moderated the discussion, raising critical questions on access, equity, and the transformative role of technology in modern archival practices.

The event was organized in collaboration with the Institute of Information Management, University of the Punjab, and the Archive Studies Department, Government College University, Lahore.
